The Plant Supply Chain Manager is accountable for all Supply Chain processes at the Portage Plant to  ensure on time delivery to our customers. This position reports to the Corporate Supply Chain Manager with dotted line reporting to the Plant Manager.  This position has direct reporting responsibilities for 2-3 Buyer/Scheduler positions with dotted line responsibility for 2-3 other associates within the Supply Chain team.


Expected Results:

  • Manage all site Supply Chain processes, including purchasing, inventory management, production scheduling, transportation, and shipment planning and execution, to provide world class service to our customers
  • Optimize use of planning and replenishment methods to drive sustainable process improvements within inventory, manufacturing, transportation,  production and capacity planning
  • Compliance with domestic and international regulations for shipments

  • Represent supply chain organization during in Plants daily, weekly, monthly, yearly meetings
  • Provide leadership to drive supply chain process improvements
  • Lead cross-functional project teams in the development, implementation and sustained use of tools and processes necessary to meet our customers’ expectations
  • Provide direction and assure compliance with transport regulatory requirements and training for plant personnel
  • Develop plant Supply Chain/Logistics metrics and establish continuous improvement plans
  • Contract with, and manage outside warehousing, toll manufacturing, tank wash and other resources where required
  • Allocate and manage staff resources according to changing needs
  • Assist in new business development by gaining new contracts, analyzing logistical problems, and producing new solutions
  • Identify risks and opportunities and create counter measures
  • Effectively manages direct reports, including performance management (setting and modifying objectives, giving prompt corrective feedback as well as praise, coaching for improved or sustained performance, reviewing performance, conducting salary planning), career development (planning and holding regular discussions with employees about their personal growth and development, including career goals), and building open and trusting relationships that further high employee performance and engagement



Technical Skills/Experience/Background/Traits:

  • Knowledge of purchasing, inventory control and master scheduling techniques and use of Lean/ Six Sigma methodologies
  • Transportation expertise, international shipment experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop team including the establishment of objectives and performance management
  • Demonstrated experience in the selection and application of proper packaging protocols and procedures for all shipments
  • Proven ability to engage with Customers, Suppliers, Carriers in support of company goals.
  • Information systems management a plus
  • Strong ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Willingness to wear many hats and work across disciplines when necessary
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to take on complex projects and challenging issues and implement permanent solutions quickly and effectively
  • Business knowledge of cost/benefit analysis, and strategic planning
  • Leader who can develop, energize and empower others

Educational Preferences/Requirements: 


  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain or Operations Management preferred along with 2-5 years’ prior work experience in a logistics planning or supply chain management role.
